Hello, friends and supporters,
Unless we’ve run into you at an outreach event or around the community, it’s been a minute since we’ve connected. We wanted to take a moment to share an update on where things stand with our work.
Update on Code Blue Shelter for 26-27 Season
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to secure a space for the upcoming Code Blue season. At this point, it is extremely unlikely that we will be able to open for the 2026–2027 Code Blue season.
To say we’re disappointed would be an understatement. It also means that the county is now down by 25-35 beds compared to two years ago, even as the number of people experiencing homelessness continues to increase.
The leadership team and Board of Directors are still trying to process this one emotionally. We know how much this space is needed, and it’s hard to pause from a goal we’ve worked toward so diligently. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Now for Better News
Even with the challenges we’ve faced, our outreach efforts have continued — including throughout the summer months, when finding volunteers can be especially difficult.
We did have to reduce the volume of supplies we distributed for a couple of months, but that’s still an improvement over last summer, when we had to cancel two outreaches altogether.
A huge thank-you to Community for Change and our Outreach Lead, Anthony Simpson, for helping make sure we had enough volunteers and that everything continued to run smoothly.
Expansion and Long Term Space News
We are currently in talks with a property owner about leasing a long term space for Emergency Housing and expansion of TLC services!
There’s still a lot of work ahead, but we are optimistic that we will be able to start some of our expanded services within the 26-27 fiscal year. More to come.
We are actively seeking grant funding and have launched a fundraising campaign to help us secure this space and move forward with our longer-term expansion goals.
You can learn more about our campaign, our vision for the future, and how you can be a part of helping us continue to serve the community here.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project — and, most importantly, for ways you can help make it happen!
Supporting People in Crisis
In addition to our outreach work, we’ve established an emergency fund to assist individuals and families facing immediate needs. This summer, we’ve been able to help families who were sleeping in their vehicles or facing circumstances where an emergency hotel stay could make an immediate difference.
One example was a family of three who became stranded in Plymouth after their vehicle broke down. Working in partnership with the Plymouth Township Police Department, their Social Services Co-responder Kia, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jim’s Liberty Service Station, EVB Towing Recovery Transport, and Colonial School District, we were able to help provide transportation home, food, hotel accommodations, and additional support until the family could safely return to western Pennsylvania.
This is why we keep doing the work. Even when the bigger goals take longer than we hoped, we can still make a meaningful difference for people who need help right now.
Thank you for continuing to support us, cheer us on, volunteer, donate, and spread the word. We’re still here, we’re still working, and we’re not giving up
Yours in service,
The TLC for the People Leadership Team
